Gadaffi has huge reserves of cash to pay foreign mercenaries to kill his own citizens on the ground. But at least now the myth that arab people actually wanted their hideous dictators is thoroughly shattered. I've rather lost hope for a happy ending in Libya though.
Ja ... the big difference between Gadaffi and the others is:
a) he doesn't care what his people think of him
b) he certainly doesn't care what the rest of the world think of him - if anything he enjoys teasing them to challenge him
c) as Singe says, he has the resources to allow this to stretch into a messy thing for a long, long time
Furthermore, the track record of external groups actually doing something quick & useful is not so good.
(e.g. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, <add your favourite case study> ....)
