With the first two Mustang models launched in September last year, and with a III, IV and V model already unveiled at NAMM 2011, Fender's latest foray into amp modelling is now a fully-fledged franchise. And an affordable one, too…

Starting at £108, the Mustang I provides eight amp models of some of Fender's finest moments. As does the Mustang II which, for £175, packs a 40W punch.

Hey Norman, have you checked out the g-dec3 30 yet? Same modeling, but with play-along and recording features.

i have yes... but im not really interested in buying another solid state amp! ?

the only thing that gets me is the prices we're paying...
at least double what they're paying there in the uk... for the same little mustang 1.
but i wont get into why again...

ot/ if i were to get another amp, it would be tube ?
especially after hearing costa's mesa boogie... oh maaaaaan... that was heaven!!!

well these amps are not that expensve here . i actually tested a maustang II 40 W 12 inch speaker today and the selling price is 175 pounds in UK and i was quoted R2800 and prob less if i push a bit ...here

well i must say they sound awesome... prob best modelling of a fender amp i have ever heard ..ok i only want clean tones so i dialed in the deluxe (57 model ..i think) and wow it's instant fender deluxe tone......... ok i did not watch any of the vids on yu tube , which i have since so i had no idea how to edit the patch's ...... cos believe me this is one amp YOU NEED TO READ THE INSTRUCTION cos it's fairly complicated and apparantly the best editing is done via PC it has a usb plug ...

but what i heard of the clean tone blew me away ....however there was a compressor that irritated me to death on the sound....but that could just be the preset but as i said i had no idea how to mute the compressor..... but other than that i liked it ..... and it's loud ...... for 40 W solid state

this amp could be the leader in solid state modelling amps...... cos it's everything in one small package and the online library and the editing via pc .......opens more doors and settings than one has just on the frontface of the amp

i think one needs to find someone who owns one before you go demo it or have the time to spend an hour and read the manuel 1st before you even switch it on .......

very interesting technolgy ...... when i'm next back in pta i will take my jazz guitar in and try it out on the amp cos from what i heard today with just plugging a tele into it i was impressed but it was not warm enough for my jazz tone but thats obvious since i use a 175 copy so the tele will sound thin to what i'm used to......that was the guitar sounding thin NOT the amp .......

so before you blow this off as a gimmick ........ i think this is a serious offering if you after fender tones...........

i'll let you know how the next test goes

It's interesting. I want a little amp that I can just plug into without any hassles for practise. Does anyone have a clue who did all the modelling tech for them? The spring reverb sounds like neither the boss/Fender tie in, nor the (even better) amplitube/fender model.

My perception from the video was identical to the review I read immediately afterwards. Great sounding Fender models. The other models sounded pants. That's fine for me though.

They've gone for multiple button pushes for selections which immediately gives advantage to the Roland - which has many more dedicated knobs. But I prefer the Fender amp models on this one.

Agonising buying a modeler though, because you know that in 2 years it'll sound terrible next to the new tech. But that's the world of digital right there.

yeah i felt that too, i have been listening to lots of fender tube amps in last while (cos i'm gass'ing for one ? ) and when i reluctanly plugged in this amp today when the store owner said i must hear it it's great ...... he initially dialed up some rock tone which i thought 'ooooooh yuck" then i saw the 57 deluxe preset and almost dropped the tele i was holding when i was taken aback by that unmistakable fender clean tone.... as i mentioned above prob the most convincing fender modeling i have ever heard on any modler so far .... oh and the fact that the 40 W amp has a 12" speaker makes the sound FAT ..

and i see if one steps up to the next model ....... the mustang III might be the one to go for it has more presets AND a celestion 12" speaker and 100W ... no excuses that the mustang III couldn't handle most gigs

.... and i agree with singe if you want that fender tone this amp is unbelievable for the cost

but i want another demo soon as i can .... cos i was initially not willing to even listen to this amp .. then when i heard the tone...... wow i'm seldom this impressed by gear .........

and sure it will lack something from a real fender deluxe but not much and at a fraction of the cost .....retail i believe in around 4K for 40 W but i was told discounted down to R2800 and maybe less...... for that kinda money it's so worth it ...but again i would think only for the fender amp fans....

If I could get the 40W 2nd hand as a home practise amp it'd be a no-brainer. I'm super-stingey when it comes to buying digital stuff though, because I know the resale is going to be nothing, ultimately. For you Keira, the amp will pay for itself through the work it does. For an amateur though... Maybe on special.

These modeling amps are a big step-up from the old solid state practise amps of yesteryear like the Fender Frontman series.
