If you have an ADSL servive its easy enough to host your own FTP site. I can go into detail if this is in place. but here are the salient points:
1) log onto the no-ip.com ( there are many others) website and create a free account eg. lindsmuse.no-ip.biz
2) download their client software, and install this tells the world where you are (DNS) ( ADSL changes it IP address every 24hours)
3) open a FTP port on your router.
4) point that port to a specific shared directory,
and youre in business within 1 hour.
with this down link service you can host your own mailserver, webserver etc etc. and you dont have to be too technical
or you dont have the above you make use of the free ( for now) google apps service which gives you all kinds of services Web, Docs, Calendars, mail etc etc 7 gigs per user - works like a charm we run our branding company through this....+ 1 service

The 3rd point - opening an FTP port on router - ok that I wouldn't know how. And if I can host my own webserver, isn't that what MWEB are doing for me? - my router is part of the package I think, with MWEB. Or how does that work. I have found out after a lot of time wasting that they don't offer ftp as part of their hosting service, yet, anyway.
But now I am going to go and play around with that Google apps service - it sounds interesting.
Thanks again
