Fear of public speaking doesn't make sense to me though. Know what you're talking about and just say it with confidence.
It helps if you physically position yourself at audience level. Keeps things more informal. Problem is we establish hierarchies, be it socially
or psychologically and those hierarchies cause abstract barriers between people - which leads to distance (and unnecessary tension) between audience and speaker.
It's important to remember the people you are addressing are after all just people too. End Psych101 lecture ?
ps: of course if you don't know what you're saying or want to say in front of a crowd, it can be a *^%$^* experience
Not all people are made up the same, I suppose we all have strengths in certain areas etc. I am pretty confident at public speaking, not that I do much of that.
But when I stand up and start playing guitar, the nerves are assualting me on every front, and it's got nothing to do with me not having confidence or practiced enough etc.
Some songs I practice about 20 - 30 times at home and I am completely comfortable with every part of the song, intro's, soloing etc. Yet walk on stage....
This might all be different when playing in a band??
but it is getting better, and when there is the interaction with the audience, the juices start going and the nerves are forced to retreat ?
