I found this on Alan's site and it's VERY valuable. I was a bit confused about the different types of neck joints and now I understand them properly.
Check it out for other very valuable advice (especially if you're about to buy a guitar soon!)

Thanks for the kind words and plug Norio. The info is a bit basic, but covers a lot of ground.
I did a very in-depth article on the different body woods too, which I am quite proud of:

Keeping in mind, Alan, that what's basic for you is advanced for many! ?

I spent most of the morning going through your articles -- I'm seriously enlightened. Love the info on recording. I already have a clearer idea of what I should be doing.

Some of the stuff is really simple, but some is not. I think allans vast experience, kicks all of our asses.

Hmm... although I often wish I had spent more time practising on the guitar instead of taking it apart.

What are you talking about? Your playing is fantastic.
I think you have a natural knack for the more technical side of guitar though. Specifically sound engineering is what I'm thinking but you'd have to find work that's fulfilling. That's the problem (IMO) with the SA scene -- it's still very young and anything just left of boring is not accepted.
In any case, you have us in awe ?

Thanks Alan for the info on Solid Body Guitars. Norio told me about it before I saw it on the forum so I bought myself a Solid Body Ibanez SZ320 over the weekend. The sustain is excellent and the guitar just feels good. I'll post some pics later on.

Half of my books i ordered arrived yesterday. One of them is called "how to get the sound you like". Which is very nice, it explains all the characteristics of all pickups, woods, necks etc etc.
NorioDS
Very nice, Frankie!
Will you post some tips here for us?
I want more time to play and less time to work ?
When you moving to Centurion again?

That's Dave Hunter's
Electric Guitar Sourcebook isn't it? Very good book. He also has a few others on amps and effects which are all great.

Yep it is ? Im gonna read it through when i go on leave ...
cain
Im gonna get those, they are saved in my amazon account, im just a little broke ☹
kayDUB
Hey, guitarists/musicians are always either broke or about to become broke ?
NorioDS
kayDUB, I think your pic got mixed with another guy's pic on another forum I'm running on this server. Didn't you have a pic with you wearing a cap or something?
Will look into it and fix it pronto.
kayDUB
Yip, that's not my pic! thanks
NorioDS
Sorry about that Kev,
I can't seem to find the problem but try and update your pic and see if it helps. That's what the other dude did and he eventually came right.
This happened because I used this forum as the basis for creating a new forum. Not terribly wise but it helped me get up n running real fast!
kayDUB
No prob, updated my pic... ;D
NorioDS
Ahhh, good to see you again ?
So, what do you play? Show us your gear, goddamnit ?
