apple quicktime movie editing some advice /help

hi ya all.i have the zoom Q3 video camera vith the stereo condenser mic's onboard and i get fab results..BUT the format is apples quicktime movie....... which is cool..... now i got the basic software so can edit the start and end points and upload files...and yes it works.. but i want do more for my next video shoot and add script and edit various clips together into a demo reel ... now i see that the quicktime pro offers almost all the features i need it's only $29 but i can't buy it online from overseas apple store as they want US details re addy ect and won't process it without that and i was refered to za apple online store and i'm mystified that the za apple store does not offer the product...quicktime pro 7 ????? so really confused and damn it i'm willing to buy the software but now it's not available ???

so is any one in the video industry or know enough to refer me to another software package that can help me make my demo reels ... using the existing quicktime footage.....

something i thought of was to find software to convert quicktime movies into windows movie format and use the movie maker software on windows. but not sure if thats possible

i thought this would be quick (no pun intended) AND SIMPLE AS JUST BUYING THE REGISTRATION KEY ONLINE BUT OBVIOUSLY not

so help please

Are you running Mac or PC?

I wouldn't use quicktime as an editor.
There are a few free basic video editing programs out there.

try converting the movie with SUPER

Then you should be able to edit it!

Super can convert it into any format you need, provided its not drm protected!

Kiera, I'm assuming you don't have a mac, only because they come with imovie which will allow you to do all you're wanting to do with that format. Also, you mentioned windows movie maker...

So, can I assume you have a PC? The easiest/cheapest way is to convert them - http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Rad_Video_Tools That should work. There are so many converting programs, just godda find the free ones. I'm sure the one Norman linked you too will work too.

If you're wanting different software, adobe products are great. I use premiere pro and it's all I use. Can do just about anything. But it's expensive and it's a little complicating at first. If you're just need some titles and simpler stuff, I'd just convert and use WMM.

My suggestion is take the clips to someone with a mac and have them run Handbrake (free converter, early version needed) to any format you want. I am happy to upload the freeware file for you.

I'm a bit useless when it comes to PC - the only editing software I have worked with on PC is Adobe Premier Pro - it will definitely do what you need it to but might be a little on the pricey side... (although if you're planning on making a habit out of it it might not be a bad idea)

EDIT:

.mov is just the package that the info is in - the same applies to .avi for PC
The important bit is what codec the file was encoded with.
Just because it says .mov doesn't necessarily mean that a std version of quicktime will play it (or .avi and windows media player for PC)

If Q3 codec is a standard one - you might even be able to just rename the files and use .avi instead of .mov
