. I dunno maybe there is a new generation of musicians that is going to make us look trivial and primitive. I think I need coffee.
i been saying and noticing that for ages... when i became a pro muso in mid 80's virtually no one had a degree in music , everyone was taught by private mentors...... and rock muso's came from garage bands ......... now 25yrs later every young pro muso even many of the rock muso's i meet holds at least a diploma if not a degree in music ..........
i have been saying for ages that the days of the "uneducated" musician may not be totally gone, there's always room for natural talent in an art form ........ however natural talent alone is sometimes not enough to compete against natural talent + education ....... already in the formal music sector as in musicians hired for stage productions / hotels/ tour ships / session muso's / are all expected to be degree'd....
in my mind there are a lot of fabulous young pro players out there....and in 10 yrs time when they not only musically educated but "experienced" (jimi had it right) the local music scene will be highly competitive.......
cos experience plays a huge role in an artist developing a unique style , and feel . so once the new generation of musicians emerging now pick up the experience of performing live/studio experience ect on top of the musical knowledge and musical understanding a degree affords the competition for music work will be at a new level never seen in SA before........ something which is much needed....
