I could not agree with you more Bob,,, in fact I found it to be such a load of cr&p it wasn't worthy of even a comment, there's absolutely no musical skill in there at all. Unfortunately some people feed on this junk
You should comment. Silence is always taken as assent. I referred above to a series of concerts in a nearby park. The residents were never happy about this but they didn't want to be seen as old fuddy duddies, didn't want to rock the boat etc etc and said nothing for a long time even though they were being subjected to a considerable nuisance. When they decided to take up the issue they had problems because, Jo'burg Parks argued, they'd tolerated it for so long. They hadn't protested.
Silence is easy to construe as assent.
I think in your case with a nuisance in your neghbourhood, definitely,,, but these guys are looking for publlicity and attention and they aint gonna get it from good looks or talent so even bad publicity is good for them.
Well I ultimately did comment ? but words escaped me and the only one that remained behind was 'cr&p' (i'm sure there's a song in there somewhere,,, ? )
My point is a more general one really, it's not just about Die Antwoord. I turned on TV recently at about 6:30 pm and found, on one of the movie magic channels, a film with plenty of effing and blinding, a conversation between a hooker and a confused client in which she says things like "I do oral sex, or I could give you a hand job." Now, fine, it was trying to make a point about power in relationships, and I've watched racier stuff and I'm a married man and all the rest of it. But that time of the evening.... I don't think so. Show it a bit later when the young ones are less likely to be prompted to ask "Daddy, what's a hand job?".
Not everything has to be broadcast 24 hours of the day and not everything has to be shoved in our faces without us having the right to object.
A good example was the infamous Janet Jackson incident at the superbowl final. A lot of people in America objected to that, saying that if you want to watch bare breasts then that's fine and your right etc but you go to adult channels for that, knowing what to expect and chosing to see it, you don't slip it into a prime time sports event supposedly intended for a family audience and force it upon the whole nation. How dare she?
