Hey guys ive got a cort evl Z4 with emg HZ's. Some noticeable features include pentagram inlays and black machine heads (nice and evil). Problem is the emg Hz's are a bit flat for my liking. I Have a Seymour Duncan distortion which i had in my old Ibanez js 100 (now owned by Andrew Bryson). Anyone got any advise?

i'm a EMG fan so i would say either get EMG 81 in the bridge position and 85s in the neck position or maybe 81s in the bridge and 89s in the neck...
i've heard a lot of great things about Seymour Duncan pick ups aswell,it all really depends what style you want to play...

i play metal mostly so my EMG recommendations are suited to mainly metal, but can do old school rock quite well 8)

Depends on what tone you want to get. As Martyr pointed out the EMGs are popular among metal players. The Duncan Distortion is a bit indistinct and blurry, but will still be a step or two up from EMG HZ.
I'm a passive pickup man myself. For a mahogany rock/metal guitar, I'd probably go with a DiMarzio Tone Zone and Air Norton or the classic Duncan JB and '59 combination. Hot enough to do metal, but not so hot that your clean sound is bad.

I am looking for a versatile tone. Mostly for metal. The problem is, if i put active pickups in my guitar I have to cut away at the body, which i don't want to do. I think ill go with the duncun distortion on the bridge for the moment and see how it sounds, after all i already have it. Thanks for the advise

The Cort EVLs have a rear routed control cavity don't they? There's usually more than enough room for a battery in those without having to rout for a battery compartment. But, yeah, try what you have first.

Ill have a look for that, shot

Tub, go for the new SD Blackouts. I only hear good things about them and the clips i heard were great.

I was checking them out on the net today. They look awesome. the sound clip sounded pretty great too.
