POD recording

Got around to recording with the POD a bit today. Just a little demo of the dual guitar tone thingy. Any critique is always more than welcome. Critiquing the playing is a big no-no though ?

p.s the out of tune bend is supposed to be out of tune. I want to harmonize that note an octave higher so it sounds wickedly out of tune ?

I like that main riff idea a lot, very cool. Really liked the rhythm tone but i wasn't crazy about the lead tone, it didn't mix amazingly imo (became a bit cluttered once the lead came in). When you say you recorded it with POD, do you mean a POD external thingy majig or POD Farm (the vst).

What drum vst are you using btw?

Used my POD X3 Live and gearbox. The drums happen to be Chris Adler from Lamb of God. I have the producers edition of the Wrath album so I just chucked the drums in there and wrote some music to go over it. One of the rare instances of music being composed in accordance with the drums ???

The lead tone is pretty horrible ? Dialing in a rhythm tone is quite easy, a good lead takes a bit of time. I just used a preset for the lead called p-ball or something.

Mmmmm. This sounds different when going through my POD vs going through my laptop sound card. On the laptop it sounds a bit more compressed and bass heavy, I'll have to watch out for that in the future.

not very rare, i do it often, first get a solid rhytmn and then fiddle around with the guitar.

This is really good. The playing is great. Composition too. Love the harmonic bit (I think around 1:34) Rhythm tone sounds so dirty/organic, and nice 'n heavy. Lead tone bad? ??? Sounds good to me.

I was listening for the telltale amp sim fizz but you avoided that. Did you EQ it out or is it just not showing up in the mix? Which POD amp on the rhythm guitar? Well done man.

What's your main musical outlet - play in a band? Or mainly home recording?

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I found the POD quite easy to dial in actually. I just treated the recording as one would a normal recording. Used the dual amp feature with a dual rectumfrier and a 5150 paired both with the marshall v30 cab setting. One sm57 mic on axis the other one off. There was a bit of fizz but I managed to low pass that out with the eq on board. I was trying to get a nice metalcore-ish sound ala Killswitch Engage by playing over one of their songs until the sound difference was marginal. This thing is ridiculously easy to tweak compared to the gt 8. I even managed to record a simple bass line with my guitar by using a pitch shifter. I'm very impressed with this piece of gear, and for R1500 it might be the best thing I've ever bought.

I haven't played in a band since the pre-cambrian though so a bunch of fancy tube stuff and new strings are a waste. Hulk sad.

I really wish I could play in a band though. My studies just kept me too busy the last couple of years and now I'm doing two masters degrees, so my guitar playing has been reduced to my late night reaper forays when my girlfriend goes to bed. Anyone interested in starting an internet band? Lol
