In my experience, the post office will have something of mine for a week or 2 before I even receive notification of it. Now, for local deliveries, that's fine because I have a local tracking number however, how do you know when the PO has something of yours from the US? ie: Delivered by USPS? All I have is a USPS tracking number. Is there a way of seeing where in SA it is, or if it's even IN SA for that matter?

Hey Norio, you can try this address... http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandconfirm.htm I used it to track my stuff from the states, but sadly as soon as it left the US then each of my 3 packages vanished mysteriously... Hope you have better luck than I did.

Thanks ? I am already tracking using that but figured they'd stop tracking once it reached SA. Am I mistaken?

You can just phone the Post Office's track and trace department and give them the foreign tracking number - they'll give you the local number that you can use on sapo.co.za

btw - they actually respond to emails as well ?

kayDUB is spot on, that number does get you through to tracking, buuuuuut if your tracking number starts with LM, then you're screwed. LN is the only one that they will be able to track...

I emailed track&trace@sapo.co.za and they replied with the local tracking number. Quite impressed, was expecting no reply at all ?

Quick question on this topic.. Does the USPS site let you know when the product has reached SA's soil? Right now the only info they are giving me on my product is that it has been shipped. That was 2 weeks ago now. Will it be updated to say it's come into SA?

Also, does international priority mail get shipped to your doorstep or does it go to the post office?

It should say it has arrived in SA.
But the best is just to phone the post office and give them the O/S tracking number, if it arrived at OR Thambo they will be able to give you a local tracking number immediately.

Always goes to Post Office, (there would be VAT payable)
Unless of course you have an account with Fedex, UPS, or DHL, then they would put the charges on your account, and deliver to your door.
That's what I am doing with my recent amp purchase... ?

Also, I believe I can now hum pretty much the entire album of pan pipe melodies that the post office play as their "on hold" music. ?

Have yet to succesfully get through.

Ahh, ok, well, mine is obviously still floating on the ocean somewhere or flying with the birds.. Thought after 2 weeks it'd make it to dry ground, but obviously not yet..

As for the pan pipe's, at least when you get your tuner you will be able to tell if you're whistling in tune or not! ?

Mine was shipped on the 4th and arrived in SA yesterday. Still have to wait and see how long it take the po to get it to me.

Yeah, I got no reply from SAPO , can't say I'm surprised but anyway, what more can I do?

Oh joy!!!! Finally somone picked up the phone and I've now got a local tracking number. My parcel is at customs in JHB, apparently.

At least no more pan pipes - now I can track & trace on their site, when it works ?
