Does he though? I'm sure there are indeed hacks that get up there and play who are utterly devoid of feeling but I'd be lying if I said that this kid's blues evoked any sort of "feeling" in me other than "hmmm, that's pretty neat for a young kid to be playing that well". But I think there's a difference between playing well en playing with feeling - especially when it comes to the blues.
I don't mean to be criticising the kid because I recognise that he has amazing talent. I just didn't think that his blues were particularly evocative, even though his technique is undoubtedly good and I love his enthusiasm. To put it this way, if I hadn't seen him but only heard him, I would probably not have bought his CD. He get's a pass though because he's a kid. I'm sure he will find his mojo with time.
