It might sound weird, but the older movies like Gone with the wind, Casablanca and the other TCM stable, seem a bit overacted to me. I think modern directing and acting techniques tell a far more convincing tale. I also watched all the Pink Panther comedies last month (recovering post-op so a lot of idle time!), and at most I grinned a few times. Apart from Mancini's theme, I honestly don't get what made them classics.
I agree. They are dated. 'Gone with the wind' is one of the best books I ever read (listened to a an audiobook). The movie was terrible by comparison! Peter Sellers seems a bit dated in these movies, but not as Bluebottle in the Goons. And I'm wondering whether Woody Allen is going to become dated.
surprisingly my favourites are anything by tarrintino or rodriguez .......... something about their way of making cult movies that can be OTT violent but so funny at same time........ and the violence is gross yet does not seem offensive....prob cos it is so OTT one sees the violence as almost a spoof of violent movies........ ... a very clever genre ......
Agree with Keira. Love these movies too. Didin't like the Barstards one tho'.
The worst movie I ever saw was the young Tom Hanks in 'Mazes and Monsters' I think it was the last video left we hadn't seen in Gansbaai and it was raining.
I think my best movie was 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest'
And the best movie I never saw - well you got me. I have no idea ???
