It's what I've always suspected.

One of the people I collaborate with, I suggested he play chords and play the main accompaniment on the bass while I played slide for our two person vocal harmony project with guitar and bass. About 15 years playing bass and he'd never learned to play a major or a minor chord (bassists are lazy gits, everyone knows it, no one's saying it). So he plays these chords, suddenly he finds he can accompany himself on the instrument. Revelation.

Of course I'm a guitar player so I just went, :?, and got down to playing the slide.

In this video... a real bassist.
