Keith Merrow - Epic 7-string Groove Metal

So I found out about this guy cause I was looing for seven string players ? He writes some epically groovy metal all recorded straight with the Axe-FX Ultra (No amps) and I thought it was pretty cool, so I'm sharing it. The first track has a guest solo by Mister Jeff Loomis of Nevermore - The other two are just pretty cool ?. He'll be working with Chris Adler (Lamb Of God) on a side-project this year which I'm pretty amped for 8) Enjoy ?

Watching Loomis is always inspiring, or soul-crushing, depending on current mood (same thing really, just with differing levels of serotonin.) Always seems like a cool dude too.

This is really cool stuff. Wow.

Looks like the first dude does a lot of mini-barres across the lowest two or three strings for power chords? Is that a common thing with 7 string guitars? Pretty awesome, since you can toss power chords riffage in between all the licks so much more easily.

@Warren - I guess he's in drop tuning so a two-string bar on the B & E strings makes a power chord. No more common with 7's than with 6's. But pretty common in metal in general.

It's really strange, he's in drop Bb. Very strange choice of tuning IMO, but it seems to work wonderfully for him.

I love how he improvises the solo 3 times and each time is just better than anything I can play at all ? The man is an amazing player and I think it's really cool of him to lend a hand to a relatively unknown musician like this 8)

I wish I had a natural 7 too ☹ His BJRs are damn sexy though ? I am super jealous... :-[
