I was wondering if anyone has done this? I went to amazon and just typed guitars and found a few good ones that I would seriously consider buying, and with the exchange rate as it is they work out to costing HALF price through amazon. The question however is shipping costs. I haven't worked it out but the one guitar that comes with a hard shell case weighs 28 pounds... Have any of you guys got a rough idea of what I'd be looking at with customs, shipping etc etc etc???
Damn this GAS!!

Doubt they'll ship them to SA, though.

It's got South Africa as a destination for this item... But you're right maybe not :/

I'm almost certain they won't. They have agreements with the manufacturers to respect their distribution systems.
You can buy through take2.co.za but they'll happily double the price for the act of doing the postage. BS. For something like Gibson, you actually do better going through the official distributors (although this is a recent phenomenon. They used to be insanely overpriced in the shops). So I wouldn't buy from take2. Some top rated ebay sellers might export here. And second hand through ebay there are no restrictions whatever. That's the route I'd take.

Take2 takes care of all that, but then it works out not quite as that good a deal. Or just see which store is offering the guitar and contack them directly for a shipping quote. Some will, some won't. And even then the prices vary. I have been quoted shipping to S.A for an acoustic in case from $190 to $800, depending on who they are willing to use. Personally I have now ordered my 2nd guitar through take2. It's more expensive but it takes the hassle out of doing personally and it gives me a degree of assurance to know there's a local oke I can shout at if I'm not happy.?

Take2 add some slim margin, certainly nothing like "double". Sometimes that's still a good deal compared to local shops, sometimes not. They're very handy as a price barometer at least.
Either way is certainly more comforting than dealing with an overseas seller direct, as Chris77 says...although I've also done business with a top-rated eBay seller, both experiences were 100% painless.

I just paid 20 dollars to have a guitar shipped to SA ?

Have a look at myus.com. They will forward to SA if the supplier does not ship to SA. Pretty decent prices as well.

Thanks guys, been doing some more looking to quell the GAS, here is some stuff I've found:
Most E-bay guys wont ship this guitar to SA - the ones that will are offering a 7 string version (lol no thanks, 6 strings are still kicking my ass!)
Buying directly from amazon (if only they would give me an answer...) The guitar converted works out to R4260, if a straight rand/dollar conversion was anything to go by.
Buying the exact same model from take2 is a plump R7550 without shipping.(out of stock sorry for joooo, or me in this case....)
Ebay works out to R7005 excluding shipping.
Going to the dealer directly sends me to the distribution company that owns B.C Rich and 2 other guitar companies which sadly doesnt help , it would be the easiest way IMO...
That myus option + amazon looks to be the most compelling solution. Gonna fire off a salvo of emails and see what happens.
Thanks everyone!

I'm confused, Take 2 pricing includes shipping to SA. Do you mean shipping to your house inside SA? Once you put it in your basket it'll add that price for you too. There are no surprises with Take2, that's what is nice about it.
If eBay is R7005 excluding shipping from the US to SA, then in this case Take2 is much cheaper. (Unless you can get it shipped for $20??? Don't know how that works. Make sure it's insured, boys 'n girls....)
G-Man
Where does it tell you that shipping is included on the take2 website? I cant find it anywhere.... It's also out of stock so I can't use them - at the moment at least. :/
chris77
The price on take2 is the total amount you will pay. It includes the product, shipping to s.a., all vat and custom charges as well as delivery to your door. Well, actually there is a R35 delivery fee for the courier to your door option, but if you buy something like a guitar that charge wil be discounted to Free. The price you see really is all you pay.

The upside to buying through take2usa ?
Thanks Chris, this makes me consider them more for any big purchase! ?
G-Man
Oh, my bad!
take2 it is then. They just need to hurry up and re-stock!! >☹

take2usa buys FROM amazon usa g-man ?
So its the amazon store thats out of stock!
G-Man
Hmmmm... Amazon.com say the item is in stock on their site, take2.co.za says supplier is out of stock. Maybe it's just an updating issue on the site, I mean they have thousands of items to monitor. Sent an email to them as well to nag... ?

Isn't it just Take 2 pointing out that they don't carry stock of these items in a warehouse and so don't expect your flying V by 3pm on the day that you ordered it?
G-Man
Nope, the other 7 string version is available to order and the one I want has no add to cart button, just am out of stock logo. :/

Bought a Les Paul through wantitall.co.za a few years ago. During the Gibson drought in SA. Looked my ass of for a LP but find f-all. So resorted to online purchase. Worked me out about 26-27K. Very expensive, but I was desperate...
Had a lot of email correspondence with the guy and was guaranteed that if it wasn't delivered they'd refund me or re-order.
Everything worked out well, but like I said. Was pricey...

The thing with Amazon is that they're not exactly cheap themselves, so the take2 prices are sometimes high. I was looking at a $400(general rrp internationally) item a few days ago, which cost almost $900 at Amazon and over R10 000 at take2.
Won't even talk about places like wantitall and have2have who are happy to charge R500 for a $5 pot ?
