Awesome! The '60s Pakistani Surf Music Scene Rediscovered!

Amazing stuff. Had to cross post this from the surfguitar101 forum:

Not just knock-offs of The Ventures and The Shadows by any means.
make-and-do
Just had a listen. Very cool.
Hints of reggae in there as well. Definitely not just copying the typical surf sounds.

Make and do, you're not a surf fan are you? Seems a bit too much to hope for, but the guitar fits. ?
make-and-do
my tremelo picking has a loooong way to go - but yeah I like surf guitar stylistics singe, not that I own
a lot of surf recordings unfortunately though :-\

Well watch this space. My old buddy Ivan and I have begun practising our tunes again for South Africa's only surf band, Krakatoa. We're planning on doing several gigs a year and making events out of them. It's a really fun show we do, so you must definitely come see it.

Drive-by ad ?
The name Krakatoa rings a bell (besides the obvious lava spouting rock). Have you guys performed under the name before?
Purely instrumental surf tunes or vocals included?
Will keep an eye open
singemonkey
Yep. Krakatoa ran from 2001 - 2006. We were doing 75% pure instrumentals. Now we'll probably mix it up a little more. Audiences really enjoyed the band but a lot of them didn't quite know what to make of it. Vocals reassure them ?
Ivan and I got together a week ago to try and remember the songs. We realised that it really helps when you're a much better guitar player than you were the last time you tried to play them. Like I said, we won't try just gig, gig, gig. We'll do a few shows and really do them as events - make sure they're packed out and the mai-tais flow freely.
Krakatoa - The Sound That Rocked The World ?
make-and-do
Thought the name sounded familiar.
Pity that local audiences need re-assurance (and musical references to established/and standard(read boring) genres most of the times)!
I love instrumental bands, Medeski, Martin & Wood (one of the best shows I've ever seen) or Benguela would not have the same impact with vocals added.
But then those are bands for geeky muso types I guess.
Simian suits with hawaiian shirts. There's your stage look sorted ?
And maybe throw in some geographical pyrotechnics for good measure
