Let's get back to Arjun.
I seem to remember a recent post where Arjun mentioned that his band opened for Deep Purple in Bangalore I think.
Arjun, tell us more about that night.
Phew..what can i say. That post must have been close to 2 yrs ago.
We played at a venue called the Palace Grounds. It was Apr/May 2001 IINM.
Our band was called
Thermal & a quarter (don't ask about the origins of that band name..dunno where it came from).
I played the other guitarist's Parker Nitefly into a Boss GT6. I remember Tech21 gear in the backline sponsored by the organizers. I just played rhythm (thank God...i suck now, which means i must have sucked pretty bad then).
Our gear was placed at the front of the stage on risers and when we finished, they lowered our gear for collection from under the stage.
Purple's gear was loaded on at the back and moved forward when we finished.
Attendance was IIRC around 35000. We went on just after 8 PM and played 45 - 55 mins. Couple of songs we did (which i remember) were Hush, Carry on wayward son (with Morse checking us out from the wings), Rush's Limelight (opened with this one), Living Color's What's your favourite color?, Cupid's dead...and a few others. I remember we ended our set with AC/DC's You shook me all night long. Crowd was very supportive given that we were college kids at the time. We told our singer to not speak forever between songs etc ?
Best part of the evening was chatting to Morse before the Purple sound check and before we went on stage...and getting the thumbs up from him during Carry on wayward son. He has the BEST attitude by far for a rockstar! No jamming unfortunately, but he did give us a lot of wise words to ponder...
