I'm pretty sure that's the same guitar I drooled over before I got my Ibby ? I'd probably still go for one but I'd likely swap the pups out for something else.

Just keep in mind that FR bridges are a PITA to work on with string changes and the like, to set and tune!

Otherwise, yeah, a nice looking guitar!

EMG's are good for distortion in the heavier genres, not everybodies' fav for cleans.

The satin hardware looks nice on the black. The X-6 is a new model and the satin is a new update to the other models IINM.

Oh, p.s. they say on the spec sheet it's got "HARDWARE: Platinum". Is that simply the way it's been brushed/anodised?

There's something that bothers me though.

I've been looking at overseas prices and the MSRP of this axe is US$360, but most places sell them for around the $260 mark.

At an exchange rate of 7.14:1, this comes to around R1850 (or R2500 if you assume MSRP). Even if you add in import duties and profit and whatnot... this doesn't seem like a very expensive guitar.

Now... I've got a cheap piece of crap already and I don't want to go down that road again. I want something that is quality and that will last me. Is this guitar good value for money? I'd hate to hate it in a year's time.

I got a very rapid response from Carel.

They do have an X4 in stock, and he said they can "facilitate" at their outlet in Centurion. I must find out if this means I can try before I buy.

The X4 has a mahogany body and different hardware and pups (it has an extra single coil which might be useful), but it's just plain satin black and it doesn't have the inlay. Also the neck is "U" shape (as opposed to "C" shape on the X6 - I've got no idea what this means).

I'm sure it's a nice guitar but now I'm starting to second-guess myself. ☹

Doesn't have to be very expensive to be a good guitar, and I believe most Corts are well made instruments (I own an acoustic and very happy). As for the retail price, I'd take that $360, multiply it by 10 and you might be in the ballpark, as far as pricing is concerned. Don't forget, you may also get a nice discount.

Holy crap. I just saw a close-up pic of the guitars in question. They call it "pentagon" inlays but it's actually little pentagrams.

Now... I'm an ~~atheist~~ secular humanist so these things don't bother me, but suddenly it looks a little cheesy and goth-kitsch.
