Rig Question

Hi there, hoping you guys can help (and mods if this is in the wrong section please move it) I am new to the electric guitar, I've been an avid acoustic player for years, and I'm enjoying it, I am just wondering about a rig setup. I want to keep the weight down as much as possible as I have back problems (stupid sport injuries ? ) I play a PRS SE custom semi hollow, that i'm in the process of adding new pickups, piezo system etc to for flexibility (don't want to cart too many guitar around) and my home rig system is a small bass practise amp and a Digitech RP355. What i am wanting to know is how i can get a small powerful amp and effects setup that can be used for live shows, but not kill my back ? Also a friend told me about the line 6 direct to desk options, the POD HD i think they are called is that any good? I play everything from church music, to prog rock and ambient stuff.

I rate we start a super-thread called "MultiFX vs Analog: the final battle", where everyone has their rants for 10 pages or so, make it a sticky and then just redirect everyone there anytime this discussion comes up.

There is no competition. Separate pedals will aways be better - soundwise - than a multifx. It's just that in certain cases a MultiFX is quite adequate and even preferable, when considering logistics, ease of setup etc... But the requirement here is for a lighter easier setup. And unless he's only planning on a tuner and an OD pedal, a MultiFX makes more sense logistically and financially.

I must say I love my GT6. Not so much for the quality of it, but simply because it keeps me putting in many more hours playing than I would have without it.

Some of the effects on it are useless or shoddy (such as the feedbacker - which is a real pity), so I can fully grasp why many guys will insist on a known quantity/quality in a discrete pedal.

I'm still loving it though! Best R1700 I ever spent.

Again thanks for everyones help. i took Donavans advise for now and spent some time messing with my effects on the RP. Found some useable ones, the distortions and overdrives are not great tb, but ok. After watching the U2 show on Friday, maybe i should get famous and get guys to carry my gear for me ?

I'll also probably take Alans advise about splitting the piezo / electric signal, the ghost piezo system that I'm putting in uses a stereo jack so if I am not mistaken that will split the signal between PA and amp? (depending my switching)

Correct. You use a Y cable (sometimes called an insert cable) - stereo jack on one side and two monos on the other (or you can use a stereo cable to a breakout box). If you plug in a mono cable, the two will mix together. Splitting the signal is when things really start getting exciting...

Thanks Alan. I think I'll be going with a Laney Cub and some stompboxes for Electric tone (they sound better imo, so better start saving ? ), and I'll get a nice D/I for the acoustic tone. Should sound good.
