The missus was watching the E! channel the other day, they had a biographical piece on the lad. He is the real deal, it seems, and not just peaches and cream. How I long for the days we still had NKOTB to hate. I guess its the same thing ?

He's half my age, makes more money I will ever make, plays 4 instruments, and is massively popular. Of course we hate him.

I was out with a mate, when he asked, "Hey do you know who sings this song?" I answered Rihanna. Turns out it was little Mr Bieber.

The reason I don't like the kid is the same reason I don't think kids/young people can be real blues musicians. He's singing about love etc and he's like 14?

If you start discounting music where the singer can't have any experience of what he's singing about then you have to chuck a LOT away.

Expectations and definitions of "love" tend to change with age anyway. I have no problem with a 16 year old singing about love as he perceives and experiences it.

I think we hate him like we hate the non-threatening boys whose image is manufactured - simple is that. Paul was not my favourite Beatle either.

Only teenagers would have anything against the lad personally. I think a lot of us just feel that teens could be listening to someone more interesting. As for his voice, while it adds to the whole, non-threatening boy vibe, it's not without precedent. Off the top of my head I remember that amazing singer that Bernard Butler did a couple of hits with. His voice was practically soprano. But since he wasn't a kid, I don't think people held it against him too much.

It's the music videos that bother me. Hanging with rappers, like they're "best buds" and singing about all "the women" he's been with... CRINGE.

I agree that many songs include love as a common theme, and the experiences of the songwriter with regards to this. However, Bieber takes it a bit too far when he starts singing about sex (I can't remember what the song was called, or the exact lyrics). The guy was like, 14 or 15 at the time!
