Flying with a Class 5...Safe?

Hi there, Im flying up to Potch to go see my girlfriend this weekend and theres a guy in Potch selling a Marshall Class 5 Combo which im going to check out, my question is, if I decide to buy it would it be safe to take it on the plane back to Durban? I've heard valve amps are more fragile than solidstate (this will be my first valve amp if I buy it...) so im curious as to whether there is a safe way to transport the amp on the plane? Also curious about a guitar in a padded softcase...(the guitar would not be going on the same flight as the amp...taking guitar up and selling, and would be buying the amp there and bringing it back...)

Flying with a guitar in a soft case, no problem. They should let you take it into the cabin with you, and you can either store it up front near the cockpit or they'll let you put it in the overhead locker.

Flying with a Class 5, scary thought. You should be ok, if you're flying one of the smaller airlines (Kulula, 1Time, etc.) as long as you liberally cover the box in "Fragile" stickers. I would also suggest wrapping the amp in some padding (towels usually work) and putting that in the box, to absorb the shocks of landing, turbulence etc.

I had to do something similar when flying to Cape Town, but didn't have to worry about breaking valves...

I have always carried my guitar to the bottom of the boarding stairs and they put it in the hold there. Collect at the same place after landing.

Is it not possible to take the amp on with you as hand luggage and keep it like how you would a guitar?
And yeah I am flying with Kulula ?

You can always buy a ticket for the amp ? if the tickets are the R400 jobs, it may not be a bad idea ?
