Hey Guys

I was just wondering where do you guys get your Instrument, speaker and patch cables from?
Which brand do people use? Which are the best? (In your opinion)

I recently ordered some planet waves patch cables, read some good reviews.

Mogami cable (from designbymax in JHB or Matta CPT here on the forum)

Amphenol or Neutrik connectors

put them together yourself or if your soldering skills are lacking, ask a mate.

How much are they? Im getting gatvol from the noise that my cheap cables are generating.

As far as I know the cable is about R15/m and the jacks are around R40 so it actually works out cheaper than paying for a name on an average cable.

Definitly the best way to go, even if you get something like Proel cable instead of Mogami, generally Neutrik jacks and cable you've made tend to last a damn long time and it's easy to repair ? However if you can get the Mogami do it, that is some nice cabling ?

I'm willing to bet it's not your cables generating "noise", BTW.

Still, good cables are worth getting - I had some Mogami cables with Amphenol connectors made up by Aubs1 and they're excellent. Very happy with them.

Well, my single coil "hummin'fuckers" are mostly to blame of course, but my cables often need a kick to reorient them into silence, this and the fact that I usually have a fan and my pc going.

The solid state amp amplified the hum and microphonicness of the pickups where the tube amp didnt...

My guess, its the amp...

I very rarely use my amp, I almost always use headphones plugged into my pedal - it actually make noise much more apparent.

Ouch... Then there could be a problem on the electronics side, dry joints, bad soldering, bad earthing, cheap pickups, the cable itself could be picking up interference...

Just a shitty strat with 3 shitty single coils (I could run SETI if I only had enough CPU cycles! >☹) and no shielding on the inside whatsoever.

And cheap cables with no shielding.

That axe is in for some major hotrodding.

Thanks Andrew seems like thats gonna be the best bet. I ordered a Bullet cable off take 2 the other day, but it seems its on back order and Im not willing to wait. :-[

Would've liked to get a coil cable tho.

The pickups could be fine though... provided the wiring is sorted out! but thats not something i could sort out! But you know who could sort you out with that ?

Mogami cables with Amphenol connectors ........... as stated by a few guys above ........ period!!!

I'm sure there are others also as mentioned by the guys .......

Here's an idea of what you can expect ...... assuming your guitar and amp are in good nick as well......

I'm using Mogami and Mogami Gold cables throughout with either Neutrik and lately also Amphenol connectors. Very happy with the results. All patch cables used are georgeL's. Make's a hellova difference imo...

I use Klotz cable with Neutrik jacks....no problems whatsoever...... ? ?

Some of my jack plugs are over 10 years old and still working perfectly

That is why they kick so much ass, I honestly don't mind paying three times the price for Neutriks for this reason :-[
