U2...Slick .....Brilliant !!!

So we went to the U2 concert at Soccer (FNB) stadium last night.....and as I've mentioned before, I am not really a fan, but I was blown away!!! They played about 50% of their older stuff, and some songs i did not even know. Yes, they did use backing tracks, which was integrated with the "Visual Spectacle" that made the show a stunner.......hey, I'm not a "review writer" either, but my take was that this was the SECOND BEST show I have ever seen, in terms of pure entertainment and professionalism ...... after the Rolling Stones at Ellis Park 1995. I was a bit disappointed with the sound mix for The Springbok Nude Girls, IMHO, it was pathetic ....just can't figure how the SA engineers just don't get it right. The band before them (don't know who they were) was mixed a helluva lot better...... I would like to see what Squonk thought of the show....(U2)! I suspect he's probably still sleeping.....hahaha Btw.... the "CLAW" sent Eli over the moon!!!! He loved the show, and is now an ardent U2 fan.. ? The show ended at about 11:25pm, and we were home by 00:32am ....... awesome!!!

I agree, I did'nt like the first band, but there are lots of awesome West African artists who I think are excellent...... Youssou N'Dour, being one of my absolute favourites........

Yeah. I saw him many years ago when he was on the Amnesty International Human Rights Now! tour with Sting, Springsteen, Gabriel and Tracy Chapman. He was excellent and his band (Super Etoile de Dakar?) were really good.

I have some King Sunny Ade at home that I need to dig out.

great pics of show you guys..and yeah like i suspected the greatest show ( not the greatest band ) to hit these shores , i have seen them live and was blown away , i was so sorry to miss this.... truly a life experience to be cherished ......... i doubt very few if any of the bands who perform in SA will produce such a mind blowing show /spectacle as this.... simply cos of the logistics and cost and few except the supergroups can afford to lay on such a performance.... but that said i would enjoy watching steve newman perform solo on a patio thru a 30 W amp just as much ...... ?

Isn't that the phenomenal magic of music, the fact that both of these extremes can induce the same orgasmic highs in all of us? Truly a gift from the gods.
