  • $400+ overdrive... Talk me out of it!!

I trust many of you saw my post a while ago where I moaned about my tonebone and how useless it was for reliability, yet how nice the sound was when it actually worked.

Well assuming you have, I've basically come to the conclusion i'm going to throw myself in the gutter and order a re-issue BK Butler Tube Driver. Its really expensive, but I'm almost 100% sure it'll be worth every single cent...

Basically is there anyone who can TALK ME OUT OF IT, or am I doing a noble thing? ?

(ALSO, I know its irrelevant spam, but Durban people are more than encouraged to check out next week sunday's Zackattack down at Wilsons Wharf, hosted by Steve Fataar. Killer lineup, cool venue etc, book etc... advertising talk etc... http://www.guitarforum.co.za/guitar-events/duce-live-at-zacks-durban/ )

You'll be glad you did, it is worth every cent!
I assume it sounds four times better than all the awesome overdrives that cost a quarter the price?

lol@anyone EVER being talked out of buying something on gfsa! ?
If you can afford it, why not? The only true test is to try it yourself with your gear. Reviews, clips and opinions can only tell you if it's the kind of tone you might like.

...then tell us if it was worth it. ?

            It'll only happen if it's a Gibson
Sorry to disappoint you, but I say go for it! I want one so badly....
...But only after you have taken a look at the klon centaur...no tube,I know...but looking at a demo and deciding for yourself can't do harm now can it? ?
Personally, for that price range I'd probably order a Rockbox Boiling Point but I'll second what Alan said regarding the whole available-cash thing. Just put up a demo.

                    Damn Gibson-hating illuminati! >☹
                      Klon Centaur:

Really cool, cool demo on youtube. But according to the website, its been discontinued for two years without an obvious successor... and its more expensive than the BK ?

Before I go and order, can someone give me the exact specs of what us dear South Africans require to make our pedals work off whats given to us by our beloved Eskom? I know we're 220v, and thats where my knowledge ends...

Thanks to all you filthy heathens, after this I trully will be broke ?
Well... I just received my Tonebone back from repairs by Glen Turrell (father of Dan Patlansky-fame drummer, Andy)

It turned out the problem was that Radial are using a tube which is not ideal for the tonebone's purpose, and that the circuit board was poorly soldered amongst other tiny issues.

Those who know me personally will know how pathetically fussy I am with guitar sounds, and with that in mind I can only say I'm nothing short of mind...blasted ? This pedal is serious serious business... So the BK Butler is out of the question, I am THAT happy with the modded tonebone.

                        Really
Seb...you are as pedantic as they come! I'm glad you sorted out the issues. Glen is awesome, I love that man too much ?
Went Through The same thing a few months ago and even contacted Mr Butler Himself re tube driver. I found a good deal on a Radial trimode overdrive and man like you I have been blown away. It takes a bit of time to set it up for your gear but once setup its amazing especially as you mention with a tube change. The beuty about the trimode is that you have 3 channels 2 channels of overdrive and a true bypass with an effects loop thrown in. Great pedal. had the hot british before but prefer this one by a long shot. Good call to keep the tonebone.
