How do they do it?

Nope, this isn't a Discovery Channel rerun. Riverside's "Second Life Syndrome" refers.

At around 6m15s into the song, there is a very nice bass tone (which seems modulated/effected somehow), and then a mellow guitar tone overlayed that I love to bits. Hau do they do it?

I've been fiddling with my GT6 to try and approximate it but to no avail.

Some idea of how they get the bass effect would also be welcome.

LOL! It's a Fender.... a Fender Rhodes. As in an electric piano. Which might have something to do with why you can't replicate it with a guitar. ? Also sounds like it's mixed with a bit of a Wurlitzer electric piano, but the clip I listened too was suffering badly from YouTube compression, so I'm not sure - there could even be a bit of a Hohner D6 clavinet in there too.

Definately Fender Rhodes and the Bass does stick out a bit there (Flanger as Alan said)

Not really. ...unless you use a guitar synth.

My GT has a guitar synth effect... but I'll be damned if I know how to make it produce anything more than a truncated whoopy fart. ☹
