  • U2 this weekend in jhb and NOT an excited word on the forum ???

wow i'm surprised that with U2 being here in jhb this weekend and there's no excited posts re going to see them , or are they just not flavour of the month for this forum ? damn they prob the biggest act and live show to hit these shores since the stones ......... just the spectacular of the live show should be enough to get performers excited even if it's not the edge's guitar style ........ i have seen them live at just a normal /less spectacular show but even tho i was not a huge fan they blew me away live , they really put everything into a performance ..........

so anyway unfortunately i have to do gigs on sunday at sun city but i would love to have seen this concert .....
'tis a beautiful day where the streets have no names ?
My excuse will be physics... project for the morrow and the next Friday and the idiot book company only brought my book yesterday, wonderful...
Keira, some of us are too side tracked by another certain band playing this weekend... ?
I'm tired of the whole stadium rock thing.

U2 use backing tracks for almost every song.
I am going, but not out of my own free will, rather because my wife bought tickets, and she wants to go see U2 (and take Eli to his first stadium concert.... I feel sorry for him on Monday morning)........ Am I gonna go kicking and screaming, hell no, I'm gonna put on a happy face. I love my wife, who knows what I may get for my next birthday present ...........hahahaha.... ?

But Monday morning I will let you know if i enjoyed the concert or not! She does not go on GFSA...... ?
The U2 that I grew up listening to changed into a different sort of U2 some time ago, so I'm not really sure how I feel about the U2 of today.

That, and R900 a ticket is just too expensive for me right now thanks.
Id rather use Willy Nelsons hair brush than watch U2.

i'd rather take a few short ones from Willys cigarette box than watch U2...

I'm looking at your profile pic and thinking you're gonna go watch U2.
Aubs and Me will give a report on Monday.

Although U2 haven't brought out anything worth listening too since "The unforgettable Fire", Yeah not even "The Joshua Tree" got me going.

I am still impressed because it's the biggest band since I saw Rabbitt at the Roodepoort Town Hall in 1976

I am rather shocked at the U2 Haters ?

                        This.

The brilliance that they had with albums like the Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum is long gone. Imo their last good album was Achtung Baby, after that it was all the same cookie cutter shit. And their signature guitar effects are waaaay past their sell-by date - i.e. boring and uninteresting.

Plus lately I'm not really interested in bands that turn the stage into a soapbox. I'll go to picadilly circus for that shit.

                        And that.

Good thing we all have diferent tastes, I cant see the Brilliance in these Albums, they had become POP orientated and lacked the energy from the first 4 albums - Boy, October, War and The Unforgettable Fire.

I don't hate U2. That would mean paying them attention.
But if a band like ac/dc were to come to our shores, charging R900 a ticket to play the same old songs they did 20/30 years ago, we will be there in a flash.
I think that U2 can definitely put on a terrific show, but I'll have to agree with what the majority here has said - I enjoyed their music up unitl the Rattle and Hum album. Anything newer doesn't do much for me and I don't see any value in paying the ticket price to go watch a light show. While it may not be the same, if I wanted to see a 360 tour show, I'd get the blu-ray. ?

Well, do enjoy the show! :roflmao:

I saw them in 1998...PopMart I think it was. It was so-so for me despite what was obviously a terrific performance, and back then I was a much bigger fan than now.

                                    Who's this "we", pale face?

See above. I'm bored with the whole stadium rock thing, with "Rock" with a capital "r".

                                    Meh, meh and furthermore meh.

Before anybody starts berating me for being a "folky", there are a number of bands with drums and electric guitars and all that stuff that I would go and see. Recently I watched a Wilco DVD and I found the whole thing very appealing - venues looked to be about 1000 heads (not seats), the focus was on the songs and on the playing (and Wilco are strong in both departments). What's not to want to see?

But sitting in row XXsomething in a soccer stadium watching a band over theeeeeeereee somewhere while the girls get up on their boyfriend's shoulders and the crowd does that synchronised hand waving bit. Is that what it's supposed to be about?

                                      +1

                                      who likes U2 anyway....

I would rather go watch Dan Patlansky at Tanz tomorrow ?
And its R100 bucks... and I can sit and eat, have a beer, go home and not sit in traffic for 2 hours.
And appreciate more talent than all of U2 combined...
Bob, to be honest, I'm with you. I will rather watch an artist in a small intimate venue doing the acoustic solo thing than go to a stadium to watch a big act live. It seems though that everybody is giving U2 a lot of kak for being dated and past their prime, but will gladly fork out to watch another bunch of geriatric rockers riding the nostalgia ticket.
