Help me!

Hi. I just brought a Hiwatt G200 head and a Hiwatt maxwatt m412 cab, but i'm having a big problem setting them up.

I'm new to heads and amps and i totally do not understand the ohms thing. First time buying a head and cab...

Right now i've got (the cable that came with the cab) plugged into the right "parallel output" which underneth says "mini load: total 4ohm" and thats connected to the right input on the cab, which i'm assuming is the stereo. And i've just got the guitar plugged straight into the "input" on the front of the head. Yet i turn it on and get no at all, just the hum of the amp head.
I also i have the head plugged into the mains, but the cab doesn't have a plug at all, is that normal?
Can anyone explain to me what i'm doing wrong and how i can fix it. ☹

After all that... the muppets sent me a guitar cable instead of a speaker cable with it..... >☹

I'm afraid I can't help you out with the whole connection process, I only own combo amps. What I can tell you though, is that speakers (in the cab, in this case) don't require an external power source. They get their power from the cables connecting them straight to the amp, so a lack of a power cable into the cab is indeed normal.
