The Malawi government is engaging in talks to ban farting in public, making it a criminal offence ???

Some Smit or Smith guy has aparently got the rights to the name "Bafana-Bafana" and is winning his court cases, resulting in that the Soccer board (or whoever it is) owes him money for each thing the name have generated an income on and that they will either have to buy the rights from him or change the national team's name ??? ???

Ownership of the Bafana Bafana trademark, and the commercial rights attached to that trademark, reside with a company named "Slam". Mark Smidt owns 49.9% of Slam.

Slam isn't listed so we don't know what he's got. If you own 10% of a listed company you don't automatically get 10% of their revenue. You just own 10% of their stock and that stock has a value that it trades at.

We also haven't seen any statements from Slam (not listed, so doesn't need to put it's statements in the public domain) and we don't know how profitable it is or isn't.

Note that he owns 49.9% - not quite a majority. We also don't know what he paid for that stake nor who he bought it from.

At present it all looks legal and above board. If he accquired the stake illegally then there is redress via the courts.

Actually, since I'm having a boring afternoon, what has happened is that a law dealing with general fouling of the air has been tabled in the Malawian legislature. It doesn't specifically ban passing of wind, but there is concern amongst some of the judiciary that the proposed wording of the law could be extended to passing of wind by mischievous persons.

I understand that public displays of flatulence after 6pm are illegal in the state of Florida - but only on some days of the week.

Did you know that in the UK a pregnant woman may request a policeman's helmet for the purposes of relieving herself?

the soccer organisation have lost money in this, they have to make it back in some way again, wich means prices of related things will get quite higher, and when the public complain about this the fingers will point to this person who's name have been mentioned on the radio, I'm not saying he's unsafe or anything, he won't be much loved for it, thats all. It'll be the same principle if for some reason beer in Germany have a price increase of say 20%. You're going to have alot of unhappy Germans on your hands

Sure. But that doesn't amount to having to fear for one's own safety. Worse things have been done to the poor people of this country - like price collusion on staple foods.

SAFA seem to be out to change the name of the national side. That trademark seems to have never been entirely within their control.

Never happen. Much more likely an irate fan offs him. Lets not kid ourselves here. People never get moerig en masse over the price of a loaf of bread, but they will rampage and destroy priceless historical artifacts to get their intarwebs back. People are fatalistic about simple necessities in life, but go befok over nice-to-haves. The bafana name belongs to the fans, and theyll make sure that it stays that way.
