Bothners are having a clearance of discontinued and shop-soiled Fender guitars and one or two amps (Including a Champion 600 for R1995!). And they actually gave me a list of examples with prices this time!

Goodwood,plumstead, claremont or somerset west?
which is having the clearence sale?
LMinnie
Looks like Goodwood..
Ive seen the Hello Kitty one hanging from their roof

They're scattered around all the stores - basically each is getting rid of their own shop soiled stuff and it varies from branch to branch. If you want to nab something specific, phone your closest branch - if it's not there, they'll be able to tell you who has it. Otherwise it may be worth just going in and having a look at your local.

I actually dig the Hello Kitty one.... ???
It fits in with my twisted sense of reality....

Damn if had the money right now the Champion 600 would be mine. I saw one in a Fender catalog standing next to a Tele and it looked so beautiful.
I wonder how it sounds?
AlanRatcliffe
Pretty much like any Champ - they haven't changed much over the years. Very tight contained sound without much bass (although if you drive a bigger speaker...). Doesn't have much clean headroom, but it rawks ? - very pure tube tone thanks to the simple class A circuit. Primo recording amp used on countless recordings.

Thankfully I'm in Pretoria, so I can not go and spend money I don't really have! And we'll just pretend the one in Centurion does not exist, for the sake of my bank account.

Alan, do you know which branch the Champion 600 is at? Just hoping you'd know before I call all of 'em. It could also be sold already I suppose?
Also, any idea if they have something with P-90s like a Squier Tele Custom II perhaps? BTW, what are your thoughts on P-90 pups?
AlanRatcliffe
I honestly have no idea what they have other than what's on the list - I haven't seen the inside of a Bothner's for over a month - I just have the info they send me. Having said that, I usually start at the Plumstead branch if I'm looking for something - they have the biggest amount of stock, so anything is more likely to be found there.
P90s and I have a love/hate relationship - they're kind of in your face midrange, which is not really into and you have to learn to play the volume control to really get the hang of them. For a single coil, they kick serious butt though, while being more articulate than humbuckers. I'm fussy about them, liking the slightly microphonic lower output ones like the Lollars.

Thanks Alan!
