It's a common problem with many fuzz and wah circuits based on traditional designs, which are simple and reactive with what's in front and behind them. Yes, a buffer will change the tone, but so will anything - swapping pedal order, even cabling. It's a blessing in one respect, as you get to experiment with a whole different range of tones every time you change the placement.
You can use any buffered bypass pedal between the two (a compressor makes sense - I quite like the T-Rex Comp Nova in front of my Fuzzsilla).
