Is sliding a tad so if you erming an ahing on some GAS pull the trigger cos i reckon in a couple of months the fine deals available now will no longer be around...from a point of 6.53 to the dollar its now around 7.20 which is already 10 %. General concensus is a further sagging but who the hell actually knows.

i struggle to understand the idiocy that we need to have a weak currency.
Why should we be at a disadvantage?! Especially when we have such vast mineral reserves.

I believe a strong rand is bad for us. Since we are predominantly a mining/manufacturing/industrial country we should be exporting not importing like we currently are...

This is a special case of the rule that NO-ONE can predict the future. ?

A strong ront is good for importers (including guitar buyers) ... but bad for exporters (including fruit and tourism).
So ... every time a currency change is good for one person, it's bad for another

It should be weaker. For a while there we were back in a 2006 time capsule (R6.50/$? Sheez). Transient bubble due to worldwide panicking & upheaval. Long term trend should be to devalue by the inflation rate differential, if I recall Macro Economics 101 with any clarity. That said the inflation rate differential is narrower than it has been. $700bn (or was it more, I lose count) bailout package has to cost something, somewhere down the line.

Anyway yes, probably still a fairly good time to buy guitars etc. Last month was an excellent time, I bought a stack of new recording software toys at those 2006 exchange rates, yay!
