Has the guitar solo died and gone to heaven?

Every guitarist would probably agree that a good guitar solo just gets the juices flowing. Many of the legendary rock songs are legendary because of their solos. But are those the bygone days? It would seem that modern music taste and styles leave little room for guitar solos. Somehow I just don't imagine Justin Bieber interrupting his effeminate cantillations to make room for a guitar solo (to be honest I try not to imagine Justin Bieber at all). Your thoughts?

In the late 70s I played in a "New Wave" band a cultural Kakistocracy that celebrated mediocrity. If a guitarist even attempted to show they had been playing guitar longer than a week by adding a few passing notes at the end of a verse they were met with a strong rebuke from the band and the audience. Fortunately New Wave died, and I sincerely hope that anyone who attempts to resurrect it spontaneously combusts. For as long as there are people who love playing any instrument and develope a skill for it there will always be room for a solo break were they can strut there stuff.

I actually find her soloing completely unnecessary and out of place which kinda plays into what some other guys were saying about solos just do not fit in some genres.
I actually find her to be a pretty shit guitarist and way overated, there are far better female players out there:

She hits bum notes, she's messy and inarticulate in some places. All in all she got hyped up to be way better than she was...

Just cause I wanna do things to her that I wouldn't wanna do to male guitarists doesn't mean she can be exempt from having her technique criticised ?
