The PRS SE range is great value for money and well within your budget 2ndhand. I would recommend you go try all the different models that Warren listed as well because sometimes guitars look better than they feel/sound,,,and dont forget to try out the Santana SE too, you won't be disappointed,,,, ?

Don't buy a new epiphone. Rather get Jack Flash's PRS or save a bit longer and get yourself a Tokai Love Rock. They go for around R10k new. MUCH better. You can also get a new Fender Blacktop Tele / Strat / Jaguar / Jazzmaster for around R6k on Take2. Very nice guitars. Not quite the classic Fender models as these have humbuckers but still very good guitars.

I'll second the PRS SE Soapbar. I had one on loan from a friend to play around with last week and loved it. Had trouble giving it back. ? Great neck, excellent build quality and some very nice sounding pickups. A nice middle ground between the fatness of a humbucker and the bite and snap of a single coil, which works great for blues and rock. Superb all round guitar IMO.

They are now discontinued, so I'd say get one while it's still available.

What's with the soapbar/P90 pickup recommendations if the guy says he likes Tremonti?

Also I disagree with the "just save some more and buy x"... if the budget is R6k, it's R6k. Pretty good guitars can be had for R6k.

I thought the Tremonti SE goes for just about R6k..? I picked up a 24 Custom SE new for R5k. Very nice guitar.

I actually asked about the Tremonti a week or two ago, and the price quoted then was R5200.

Well did he say he likes the Tremonti or that sound?

I know I like the PRS, mostly due to Mark Tremonti, and then again, it is more the shape of the guitar not the sound that makes me want one.

So that sounds like the PRS with P90s might do quite nicely.

Yep. He could check out Tokai, Carparelli, PRS, Ibanez, Schecter, Epiphone, blah de blah de blah

Mannemarak, take a look at good condition 2nd hand guitars. That's often a way to get more guitaring bang per buck.

I would second the PRS... just not mine, it's SOLD to a forum member. S'ppose I should update the classified. Just a word on it however... I have yet to come across build quality that comes anywhere near it in that price range... I haven't tried other SEs but I'm sure they'll be right up there too. P90s aren't for everyone but if you're into blues/rock they'll kick. Only problem with the available PRS SE P90 models now is only single bridge pup, too limiting imho. If you can find a dual pup around still and P90s are your vibe, go for it...

Absolutely! Take a day (leave early) (and cash, always works when dealing) to broaden your options a zillionfold!
You will find better (and more) axes at better prices, that will make your trip cost effective!! ? Some of the Johannesfontein forum members can give you a coupley addresses of stores to go to.
Don't limit yourself when buying a new(or used) guitar >☹
NB. Don't overlook 2nd hand guitars.
Let us know what u get in the end ?
