New gig room being built - input?

I mentioned this a while ago, but there has been a change in plans, my missus is all for me building a room from scratch, so this gives me a lot more stuff to play with. To date this is what we have.

1) building plans approved for a 5 x 6 out building
2) no windows, double access door system
3) AC
4) more than enough power points for plugs.
5) solid reinforced concrete roof
6) double skinned walls as well as bass absorbers that will be made.

At this stage, I'm thinking of stuff that would be nice to have in there, like internet, fridge etc.

Any ideas, any rooms where you guys have played that you feel needed a few things?

Budget for the whole deal is about R15 000 and the build as well as the kitting out for electricity comes to about R11 000. So I'm really into looking for some inexpensive options.

was thinking at least a PC if I want back tracks etc or one of those nights where you have conversations like....."man you know that song, it goes like....dah dah dah.....agh moer."

I'm going to fit a fridge in the airlock section between the 2 doors, it won't be in the actual room.

Just curious, how do the plaNs look? Finished my first acoustics module this semester so would like to see real world application.. Worst case, could you make a copy so I can pop by and check?

I don't see an issue with that. Building will only start in June though as I've got to give my wife a few months re-coup time after our new baby. Will be out fo the country for a few days, so I'll organise something next week for you.

Awesome!!! No rush though, in for surgery next week so gonna be man down for a while, but maybe you could keep em around for a bit!! I'd really appreciate it ?

Been thinking of that too, luckily this will be built behind the garage and you can only get access into the area from the garage, from that I'm going to have a door with a security gate on it and then there's a second door that'll go into the room. Our current home security luckily is all wireless and has open spots for 5 more add ons, so I can just mock one up.

didn't think about the fire extinguisher.........got one in my kitchen, garage and laundry room.....time to get another I guess....

u building a 30 m2 building for 11 clip incl lectricity.... you forget about the roof ? floor? walls?

an that includes a double door system?

Any ideas for a perpetual motion system you might have i would be interested to hear

like icecreaman says - you building a 5x6 room for R11 K???? what you building it out of?? grass clippings??? ? ???

we just built a 7.5m x 6m outbuilding for R100K.. and there is no labour in that amount as the wife and I literally built it ourselves with our own hands to keep costs down by not needing any labour.. so the R100K is purely for materials.

lol.........yup.........the missus's dad works for CONCOR technicrete.......so all of the walls are being built from factory 2nd stuff (stained, slightly chipped stock bricks)and the roof is going to be a solid slab of prefabbed re-barred crete.......electrical stuff as well as my AC came from my work when they pulled out some of their old gear, (total cost R500). My list of materials is about R5000, doors included.

Me and the old man are going to be doing 90% of the build ourselves. Won't be the first time, half my house was rebuilt with his help.

I have a few ideas for perpetual motion on a napkin that are kicking around somewhere.........lol.

Our bathroom en suite that is planned for June is about 10x4 and that's only tipping the scales at R50 000 with a full top to bottom shower, 4 x double cupboards, stained glass and laminate flooring. We built his 8 x 7 garage for a little under R18 000, steel beams and roofing included.

Yup.......aint that the truth. If I would of gone the normal joe route on this and buy from a place like a brick yard and builders, I could do it for about 25-30k doing it myself.

I'm pretty lucky to have my wife, she comes with good connections and doens't mind going to her mom when guido and mundane want to come over and jam...............she's a keeper..........lol.

That could also confirm what we've all suspected all along - the constuction guys are ripping us off ?

Oh, no doubt about that! That said, post-world-cuppery is making life hard for them and easier for joe public. My bro's neighbour is a master mason and he told me the othe day he is making much more money laying astroturf, while his brick-n-mortar staple is stagnating.

hell i can give plenty examples of building industry rip off...

when we built ourselves last year, we thought we would rather get professionals in to do the roof trusses etc for us...
got a quote from some professional roofing installers - JUST to install the 7 roof trusses.. no purloins or roof covering or anything, just hang the trusses that I had already ordered and paid for and where on site..

the cheapest quote we got was R7,500 for their labour... said it would take their team of 6 GUYS a total of 2 days to do the job..

we said screw that and did it ourselves... took me and my wife, and a female friend of hers (who is closer to 50 than to 40 years of age) 2 and a half hours to hang all 7 trusses in a manner that exceeded the minimum SABS standard....

we busy with some alterations to the house at the moment.. got 7 companies to quote me on laying the concrete floor slab... cheapest was R14,500.. the most expensive = R67,000 and all the others where somwhere inbetween.. talk about a rip off !!

Make sure the fridge is on it's own electrical circuit breaker to prevent interference when it kicks in.

The fridge will run off the garage switches........thanks for that. I couldn't understand while my sparky wanted to do that.
