My band abbreviates to SIF. The guys love it, me not so much but I can see their attraction to it.
I must tell you, epictring, how we went about it. We had discussed what we want our name to do, what impressions we wanted it to give. So we were to avoid punk sounding names, emo names, joke sounding names or overly heavy sounding names.
We then threw out a few words that we all agreed would be cool to feature in a name. Even if they didn't feature it planted ideas for everyone to think along the same lines.
we tried some suggestions, checked if they were taken. One we liked rhymed with a local band so it made us sound stupid. Then we flipped the order around and that collective light bulb comes on.
When everyone agrees on the name, they are proud to perform under it and put in a bigger effort. Believe me, its not easy saying to people, "I play for The Dayshite band." and be proud when you say it. You say it soft or deliberately mumble it in the hope they don't hear it or forget it quickly. Then they immediately write you off as kak. Do you really want people to forget your band name?
