Sebastian
Hi guys, A bit off topic to what I usually post on (like why the *^% doesn't my guitar sound good ? ), but today I need the opinions of South Africa's finest minds ( ? )
My band, formerly known as "Juice" has acquired two new members (new rhythm section), written a whole bunch of new stuff in a new direction, mostly what could be called fusion, and so as direct result we've decided to change our name (Juice was crass anyway ? ). Keeping our name the same is not an option as I'm actually the only remaining member of what started off as Juice. Your brief thoughts on which of the following is the best is needed:
Elektric Theory Band
Banned
Axis
Elektric Blu
Or do we need to stick firmly to the drawing board? ?
Manfred-Klose
i like "juice", its plain and simple and sounds fun and fresh.
the other names on the list dont blend that well with a funk band, do you have any others on the drawing board ?
what type of funk do you guys do ?
Sebastian
"Fusion" sir. A mix of Jazz, blues and rock.
Our influences are Michael Brecker, The Dixie Dregs, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Beck and Vai/Satriani etc. I suppose ?
People mistook it for "Jews" or "Juiced" and the band would be a Juice if it did play funk, yes... But girl bands or advertising campaigns for sunblock are meant to be "fun and fresh" and not a serious fusion band ?

I'd seriously drop the misspelling of "electric," and the whole word too, for that matter. Super dated.

I don't really think it matters what you call a band (within reason) it is the music and the marketing and commitment that makes the name famous not the other way round. 8)

thats not neccesarily a bad thing in the music industry ?
why not do a pun on "juice" and call yourself 'Freshly squeezed" and with "freshly ground" in peoples mind you WILL be remembered..... but that takes a good sense of humour and maybe not too right for a serious band., but hey it's a sunday afternoon so just a thought ?

Names are incredibly personal and subjective. The number of times I've been tasked, as an advertising copywriter, to come up with brand names for new products have always been nightmarish. I've devised 50 names or more on some projects and the client always comes back to his or her original name. ☹
Sometimes you get a breakthrough with a client and they choose one of yours, so that's why, for the hell of it, I'm going to give you a short-list.
FuZion (could be mistaken for a cross between a Japanese and a Jewish group ?)
Fuzion (not so confusing)
Eclectic Electric
Amalgam
Mosaic
Kaleidoscope
The Conglomerate
Hybred
Mixed Spice
Breyani
Union
Synthesis
Cohesion
Splice
Zipper
If you use one of the names and you become famous you can pay my fee into my pension fund.
P.S. I don't know if other bands have used these names - haven't had time to do the research.

I gotta say, out of all of them I like Juice the most too. And it has a history to it too. Sebastian and the Smoothies is good, but that puts your name in the title, perhaps a bit bold for your other band members.
If you're a serious fusion/ blues band, then I don't know, how about "The Men in Blue/s". Might make you think of Will Smith more than you'd like to though.

Zipper is awesome, ^5 Pete!

Joose... ha ha ha. I'm not being serious though.
I've been lucky with band names. I thought Zerothirtyone was cool and i enjoy my current bands name.
Sebastian boet, look at the names of songs you like ( worked for Seether, Funeral for a Friend) or movies you like (Veruca Salt?) or anything. Pick words that inspire you or that "pop" and then play with them. The more you try the better chance you have of coming up with something.
Funk Juice.... Freshly Funked... Go Funk Yourself... I just Funked yo Mamma (ha ha, South Park reference anyone?)
