So yesterday i am at store and buy a couple of odds an ends and throw in the guitarist magazine as well...yeah i realised at 160 its a shed load of cash for a 5.50 quid magazine but i was feeling extravagant.... started reading it last night and this morning ,looked at that cd included ,messed around with some stuff an decided dayum its an awesome magazine .....just how do we get around 160 ronmt price tag .... :-\

Magz in rosebank got the dec ishoo of guitarist and nov ishoo of guitar techniques fresh on the shelves.....

The also have a lot of previous months of both titles....

I wish I could but my budget cuts have stopped all guitar or motorcycle magazines...

I've downloaded a couple of Guitarist mags to my IPAD. The January 2013 of Guitarist Deluxe is now available for free!!! Includes the interactive CD content etc.etc. at a fraction of the cost +/- R50 depending on exchange rate. Download size +/- 500MB.

Go e, go green & save em trees for important things like guitars.

Even less! That's what I do. But as for going green I dont know. Pulp is made from cultivated pine trees, no? They eff up the countryside as much as cutting down indigeounous trees does. And I must tell you, it's still a bit strange wandering off to the crapper with the IPAD.

All this gave me an idea. Actually awakened an idea that I had about 10 years ago. What if a few GFSA'rs join forces to produce and publish a SA Guitarist magazine? Doesn't have to be big and fat and glossy for starters, but there is more than enough knowledge and topics/stories on this forum alone to slap together the first few editions. Anybody interested in being part of such a project? PM me, maybe we can brainstorm. How many of you guys would actually buy such a magazine if it's priced under R40 bucks?

but i have to tell ya the magazine game is a tough , very tough and unless u have advertisiers to foot the bills you have financial headaches all the time.happy to brain storm though ...maybe some good ideas bubble up ...

Guitarists are a niche market in the whole of the UK i think Guitarist itself only sells around 30 000 copies....

just downloaded the feb edition of guitarist to my ipad for 39 ront ...i prefer paper in te hand being old school but 200 ront in cna is a tad to much..... also want something to read over the weekend so download for the win.

and I am the same as you. but with the digital you can nogal take a look and see if there's going to be something that interest you before you commit.

Nearly everything on this forum is visible to anybody with a web browser. If you want my money there'd have to be content that I can't get for free, legally, elsewhere. The other side of this coin is that you can't have your contributors sharing their contributions for free - that's sawing away at the branch you're sitting on.

Also there is a free magazine distributed via music shops. So, again, I'd need a reason to shell out some actual money.

Local guitar magazine? Hell, I'll take two! I'm so tired of seeing gear reviews in UK and USA magazines which we don't get in SA. Also some exposure for the local lesser-known players will be awesome.

Not too sure about print, though. Wouldn't it be easier (and far more economic) to set up a website? It's easier to sell ad-space on a website than in the pages of a printed magazine, after all.

Online pricing for Guitarist just gone up by around 10% ..subscription pricing around 10% too...so 44 ront ,still good price eh

Subscription via Zinio works out at about R32 a copy.

+1 I have a guitar techniques magazine from 2008 that im only going through now, but its got so much in it that i honestly think a years subscription would give me exercises to work on for the next 5 years!

You can get bogged down with too much new stuff, finish what you have then move on, i agree it will keep you busy.Sometimes an exception to rule is when you have guitar block ( feel you not progressing ) its good to just try lots of new stuff then you become motivated again ? ?.
