Sorry IceCreamMan... the Saints dominated for 60% of the game. Gotta love little Hernandez though - he's like a clone of Ole!
Just want to ask you a question with you being a true Southampton fan - what do you think of their kit? Got a shock when I saw it wasnt the tradiotioanl red and white stripes, just the single, angled red one - did the fans complain much when that happened, cos I can't see a club like Celtic doing similar (or is that not their home strip?)
IceCreamMan
this is the strip for this season ....fly be decided not to renew their sponsorship after 4 years an quite frankly they cannot be blamed ,last 4 years they put in 2 million pounds with the sponsorship and probably did not get a return on their investment and lets face facts saints been languishing in leuague 1 (old 3 rd division) in the middle to bottom half of the table ,,,well until end of november anyway and now they have a real chance of promotion but i digress.
2010 is the 125th year of the club and without the sponsorship the thinking was to go back to traditional strip for this year...... seems to have caught on a bit as i have seen man city with something similar in an away game ( i think its city)
not sure if the strip will remain traditional for 2011/12 ..if promotion is achieved i am sure they will get a new sponsor onboard which will reuslt in a drastic makeover ...if no promotion then i spose something similar will remain....

Thanks for clearing that up - just didnt understand why they had moved away from the kind of Southampton kit that I have always known. Also noticed the no sponsorship thing - thought they were trying to do a Barcelona!
Well, they looked very good for a league 1 team, and although a cup competition can be deceiving, if they play like that week in, week out they shouldnt have a problem getting promoted (I think they thumped Oldham, also not a bad side, 6-0 recently). But they look like a good attacking team with good width and quick, direct full backs. That youngster, Oxfam, whatever, Chamberlain looks exciting too - either way, they'll sell him for close to ten million pounds or he'll help them towards promotion.

Jsut an update on Saints an league 1. Saints are 2nd curently (the first 2 promote automatically , the next 4 slug it out for the one spot) with a tough game against Brighton away next which is going to take one hellova a thing to win that(brighton aint lost at home all season btw and are so far ahead that they have effectively guarenteed promotion)
5 games left in total for saints (4 for the most of the others) so not a ahuge trainsmash to lose against brighton but will need to win the remaining games to promote. All else fails Saints will be in the playoffs but thats risky business.
its down to the short strokes .....

Good Stuff
Southampton need to be back in the upper leagues, they always had good spirit. Remember that 6-3 win over Man Utd about 1996(I think) and Berkovic was so superb, who was that other goal scorer that day, Ostenstad? Long memories ago!
Hopefully you will be up in the championship to face my team, (now dont laugh) , Derby County. I have supported them since 1972, when Cloughie was starting out as a manager.
a good film to watch is "That Damned United" , all about Cloughies short stay at Leeds United after Don Revie. Great for Football fans because it showcases what the English game was like in the late 60's and early 70's. No prima donnas, no diving, just solid tough English Football ?

Yes... but everyone know's that is cos United were wearing a grey kit that day (for the first half anyways).
IceCreamMan
Been racking my brain but dont remember that result ..... :-[
However ..Saints have had a string of good results including an away win to brighton (who are league one champs )2 games left (rest of the top 6 only 1 game left.
Saints need to win one of them to gurantee promotion...both games are winnable imho ....
its been a great season ..from being in top 10 on dec 1st to a string of superb results

Season after that in euro ?
sadly going to take a shed load of money which needs to be found . Case in point is QPR .... owned by the F1 crowd who pumped in zillions i suspect. we see how they get on next year

Well, looks like it’s back to championship football for us. Make my season ticket cheaper…yeah right.
still hope, I mean if Liverpool can put 7 past United then we could win come Sunday.
