Vic, I don't think I would say this guitar has a typical chevron patterned top. All the chevron patterned tops I've seen usually have the angled flame all the way down the body, like this:
On my guitar, the flame starts off running quite uniformly across the body and only starts angling as it reaches the bridge pickup, so it would seem that the angled flame in the top half has more to do with how the flame runs in this particular piece of maple, rather than the cut of the maple, like the regular chevron patterned guitars.
