I don't want an SG cause I think they look silly ? Also I've found their neck joints to be uncomfortable which makes all my twiddly fun up neck a little less fun :'( I also can't stand 24,75" scale lengths (27" seems to be my preference) and they always get that honky mid range that I just can't get along with. Then again I think mahogany has to be my least favourite choice in wood so it's kinda expected, somehow though when Frank Zappa picked one up it just ruled 8) Can't really think of anyone else I like who played SGs except Holdsworth but he stopped using them fairly soon into his carreer and to be honest I think when he started playing the Steinberger copies his tone became a lot better, even though he had an Ibanez signature I honestly prefer his current vibe ?
That said I'm not saying they're bad guitars, and many classic hits have been written on them. Many of the world's (not mine ?) greats have played them. You can't really argue with that, I just happen to think that the SG is one of the ultimate examples of a guitar that is designed for a player with entirely different requirements to me ? Also it's fixed bridge non-locking which to me is just epic fail ?
