Changed strings for the first time last night. However, in my haste to get my new toys installed, and like the complete idiot I am, I didn't stop to inspect how the strings were installed on the tuner spools before ripping them off. Anyhow, after a fair bit of headscratching and dribble-wiping, here's what I did.
- First I turned the spool so the hole was running 90deg to the length of the guitar.
- Then I made a single loop in the string, with the tail-end of the string running on top of the section running to the nut.
- I then pushed the loop over the spool, and then tucked the tail end through the hole and BETWEEN the resulting two coils on the other end, with the nut-ward section underneath the string as it emerges from the hole.
- The wound string thus creates coils going down towards the headstock as you tension it.
The idea being that the string pinches itself into place as you tension it. Is this correct, or is there a better way?
Thanks!
