Recorded using a 5150 panned hard left and right as well as a Marshall JCM 800 (boosted with a OD808) hard panned as well. Mic was a SM57.

Sounds really good. I like the song. LOG vocals with a more melodic guitar approach.

The drums are cool - real drums? Snare maybe a bit loud in the mix. Vocals sound cool, very Randy Blythe.

Guitars are generating a lot of top end fizz, usually the culprit frequencies are around 4-6 kHz somewhere.

So tell us more - is this your band? Name? Location? (Or just a link if that's been discussed elsewhere.)

This is LOG! I have the special producers edition of the Wrath album. I was trying to figure out the guitaring for the song "Hands of Blood", got bored and started playing the main riff from one of my songs. It seemed to fit quite well rhythmically. I changed the key and subsequently recorded my guitars. The guitars does sound "odd" in the mix. For one there is some fizz (but that's what you get for plugging a gt8 into a dodgy soundcard. I think the guitars are a bit soft as well.

Ok so that actually IS Randy Blythe's voice? Ohhhh - I have the Wratch album but didn't recognise it HAHA. I didn't enjoy that album, guess I didn't listen to it very often!

Yeah all modellers seem to generate that top end fizz. I always notch out the troublemaker frequencies.

I miss my tube amp. There, I admitted it. I miss my amp. Modelers are lame (unless it's an Axe-Fx). Sigh, I should never have sold my Marshall :'(

Amps are obviously cool, but so are modelers. I have a Mesa Boogie .22, sounds awesome but never play it anymore. Convenience junky! And anyway the Mesa requires a heavy dose of EQ too in order to sound good.

Top end fizz is generated by many electronics in the signal chain, it's not just a modeler phenomenon, pedals can also do it. Not a problem once you know about it - EQ!

It's not so much the EQ issues. The Boss has a dizzying amount of EQ power. It's a mission, but I'm sure I can get a decent tone with enough tweaking. The thing I miss about tubes are the responsiveness. I swear my playing has degraded since playing modelers. Everything feels somewhat "disconnected" if that makes sense. I don't really know how to properly describe the sensation, although I'm sure you know exactly what I mean :? , it just feels as if the tone is "in my hands" with tubes. I don't get the same feeling from playing the Boss.

Nope. I hear this but I don't know what people are talking about. The Mesa feels spongy and *UN*responsive (horrible) until I drive and scoop the shit out of it, then it feels good, just like a well setup modeler. Clearly I have no class nor taste. And little patience for the whole tube purist "feel" trip. ?

I'm not a tube snob by any stretch of the imagination. I've always maintained that modelers will eventually be able to emulate any amp to such an extent that the most discerning tube snob will not be able to tell the difference. There are plenty of clips on the internet that prove my point. The Gt-8's amp modeling is probably its weakness. I'm sure there are much better modelers out there although I've only tested them in the store. So maybe my gas for a tube may be preempted.

I always get the sense that these modelers feel less dynamic than a proper tube amp. They don't react in quite the same way to picking dynamics etc. Also some of them have noticeable digital aliasing issues. I'd like to properly tests some of the newer modelers though, the GT-8's modeling is a little outdated.

In the end it's not a "better or worse" type thing. After playing a JVM in the store the other day I noticed that it just "felt" more comfortable and responsive. I must say I miss the feeling. It's akin to driving a Ferrari vs a Prius lol ? Then again maybe I'm full of shit.

This gives me an idea. I'm going to post a new topic about this and get the other forum members opinion.

Yeah I've never tried a GT8 but I think there's better modeling out there. TSE-X30 is awesome. Peavey Revalver is awesome. The Poulin stuff too. And two of those are FREE!! What an interesting time we live in.

The thing is, once it's inside a mix, all bets are off. I've heard terrible sounding clips with real amps, Axe-FX, POD...and amazing sounding ones with all that same equipment.

It's funny, my TV lounge 'practice amp' Cube X30 feels more 'alive' than my recording setup sometimes. But it's a modeler! Then I go back to the recording setup, and back again to the X30 and the feeling disappears..or it's just 'cos the amp was set louder. So subjective.
