Why do rockers write songs to girls and sing them to their bassists?

It's a well known phenomenon. They get on stage, belt out a song about a girl who's had a profound effect on their life, and sing the whole thing at/to their bassist or even guitarist. Odd.

I find that alot of these soppy faced wet diaper love songs tend to give a very unrealistic and almost alien view on love. They seem to hype it up to be something it's not and eschew the reality of the matter, then people go looking for this unrealistic non-existent interpretation of it and never really find themselves getting the point ? That's just how I feel about it though, our views have become slightly tainted because of all this silly baladic love song nonsense...I think Frank Zappa said it best "Broken hearts are for assholes" ?

I hear ya. Bit chicken/egg though, perhaps. I'm always preaching to the two kids how that shit on Vuzu and E!, wotzit, those dating shows and bachelor-chooses-fluffy-dick-lay-option shows and whatnot, give a completely false view on girls and relationships in general.

I feel that the better love song is the one where love is lost due to death or breakup...then singing to the bassist is more a acknowledgement of the bassist or the relvevant person telling the singer...'I told you so..'
