Hi all
I seem to have developed a ' sensitive' fingertip on my left hand, probably due to the fact that I am putting way more hours than normal.
Can still fret but the bloody thing says hello every time I do.. is it best to ignore and and keep on keeping on, or should I rest it for a while ?

Gooi! I also developed a very sensitive fingertip, ring finger. The bone itself ached like crazy, but this disappeared a after a day or so. Its now been two weeks and my index and middle fingertips are rock'ard, with my ring finger coming along nicely. Pinky we shall not discuss...

I also say go for it until you can't anymore. The exception to this is if it's muscular or tendon pain, where you can do damage by overdoing it. But sore fingers bring calluses and the more they hurt the faster they develop.

Guys, be careful. Those symptoms you developing are exactly what my former guitar teacher has. He over trained his finger and then his ring finger was hurting for 6 months. The pain gradually got less and moved from his entire finger just to his lower part (near the nail). But dont underestimate the pain.
Warm up thoroughly before you play, and before you even touch the guitar, may I suggest you soak your hands in some hot water to relax your muscles. If the pain continues, see a doctor.
The worst thing for a guitarist is to have the magic makers (fingers) saying NO when you need them

You dont mention how long you normally practice and what the legnthier practicing was.
generally i play thru but sometimes you just know that a lay off is the thing to do ,,, only u know the symptoms of the pain...
in my case , if its "skin" related i have no worries playing thru...but now an again i used to get "over stressed" symptoms in my fingers and wrist an that demanded a lay off .... dont get it anymore so its a matter of "training " the body i guess.
take care

I am recently recovering from tennis golf old roadie elbow in my right arm from carrying my amp awkwardly after a gig. I seemed to have pinched a nerve to boot because I lost sensation in my thumb and index finger for a few weeks. Common sense would tell me to rest up but needs must when the devil drives so I practised through it and it seems to be a lot better. I think the bottom line is that if your injury starts getting worse or no better stop what you doing and see a doctor otherwise play through.
