I first did this working for the CSIR, where it was administered by a psychologist i.e. fairly rigorous. From what I recall (this was years ago) Bob's point is very valid. It's a continuum and the 'real' tests give you that quantity (% I vs E etc). Lots of room for variation as Bob says.
The on-line tests I did - both sites mentioned in this thread - gave the percentages. I was such a % I etc etc. The problem is lumping together person A - 1 79%, N 12%, T 13%, P 43% - with person B - I 21%, N 63%, T 45%, P 19%. They have some similarities, but are at different points on all 4 continuum. (ContinuumS? ContinuA? ContinuII?) A and B are both intrroverts, but A significantly more so than B. Etc etc blah blah
Ok, if you're applying for a job you don't really fit maybe there's an incentive. E.g. Strong introvert applying for a door-to-door salesman job maybe... But to take you as an example for a moment, INTJ/P seems pretty much perfect for the type of jobs you'd be interested in & good at: musician, engineer, etc.
That Ozzie Osbourne is a real introvert isn't he? Keith Moon too. Alice Cooper, David Lee Roth, Mick Jagger...
(though, of course, some people who are bold on stage are rather more reserved off stage)
