What's your Myers-Briggs personality type?

Tonedef

There's been quite a bit of talk about the sorts of jobs that people do/did, and the associated personalties of musos/players in general.

So let's do this poll! The results should be very interesting. I've made the poll non-editable, once you've voted, your vote is fixed - so click with care! If that's a problem, lemme know.

If you don't know your MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Identity), there are a couple of online tests you can take, which I'll post URLs for shortly. They're far from ideal (the real deal has you sitting filling in dots for hours), but are reasonably ball-parkishly accurate.

And if you think they're a load of touchy-feely kak - lemme tell you, I had to do an MBTI assessment (my first ever) when I applied for my current job. The psychologist who analysed the results and sat with me afterwards, started talking to me in a way that was creepy. She told me exactly what my personal habits were, why I do the things I do and feel the things I feel, etc - in short, it was like listening to a recording of myself thinking.

I actually learned alot about myself, in an objective way, and it was valuable. I'd highly recommend peeps find a qualified Industrial psychologist and do this test just for the hell of it.

ISFJ, then, I'd guess? ?

Bob-Dubery

Sorry, that should be "anal literal argumentative"

BMU

I love the MBTI. Not surprisingly, as an INTP, the MBTI predicts that I'd be exactly the sort of person who would love the MBTI haha. This stuff works, it's not any touchy-feely nonsense.

INTPs, just for interest sake, are your typical absent minded theorists, Einstein being our perfect poster boy.

PS - INTPs are also known to enjoy 'difficult' music since it appeals to the intuition - disharmonious or odd-meter etc. Which is pretty eery considering my 'sevenstring techmetal' leanings. LOL and I thought I was so different, it's all programmed in. ?

I don't trust this test at all. It's scientifically questionable and I would treat any potential employer administering it to me with grave suspicion.

It's very easy for a result to fit you like a glove due to the Forer Effect: "...the observation that individuals will give high accuracy ratings to descriptions of their personality that supposedly are tailored specifically for them, but are in fact vague and general enough to apply to a wide range of people." This is the principle underlying perceived fit with astrological types.

The test does not have very good test-retest reliability (there is a strong possibility of receiving a different profile when you retest next month).

Bob-Dubery

I got INTJ - just like Stratisfear. I know Stratisfear and like and respect him, but I don't think we're the SAME personality type. I also not that it scored me x% I and y% N etc etc, so clearly there are shades of types. You could be an INTJ with strong J etc etc

The reliability and validity of the test is actually very very good

case in point ..i been playing aorund with these for decades and my results are consistent ...only in the last 2 years or so have i edged a lil from a j to a p.

the test you did may not be but in general these have a very high reliability factor.

Tonedef

I couldn't agree more, BMU. The subject also turned into one of my usual side-show armchair interests.

Singe, I agree to some extent. As I'm growing older, I'm switching away from the J scale to the P scale. I can only attribute it to constantly maturing and growing as person.

The fact that analysis of the results and the resulting introspection can modify your behaviour (as it did for me), also introduces an element of red-herringitude.

I still believe it's generally reliable. I'm of the opininion that many people themselves are incapable of doing the test in a reliable way, and inadvertantly let their current mood influence their answers.

They reckon I will be a good nurse, secretary or teacher ???

I'd like to point out that, as an INTJ/P, you are most certainly capable of manipulating the test, seeing as you are able to immediately judge, upon reading the question, what the answer should be to fit your current/percieved MBTI.

Just sayin'.

ENTJ for me... True to a point... and I always get this result.. but sometimes I dont see myself fitting ENTJ.
I am going to read a bit more on the other types, pretty interesting none the less

Those are the Protective/Supportive ranges. Get thee to a psychologist, brother. You will be surprised what you learn. Often our self-images are artificially skewed in ways we don't realise.

SIHT type, then? ?

A criticism that can be levelled at this poll just occurred to me.

The fact that it is online, may favour the IN** types, as one could argue that those personality types have greater access to computers/internet usage, or simply being in a mileau whereby internet fora are a way of life.

Again, just sayin'.

Used two of those sites now and got different results.

Interestingly one offers you "yes" and "no" options. The other offers "rarely or never", "almost always" and a fence-sitting "sometimes"

I'd judge that the latter is more reliable. Would you like to change your vote?

ETA: The latter reflects the sort of options for the real-deal test, just to clarify.

ENFP, for what it's worth.

Looking at the descriptions of career opportunities and they make sense for me.
