Effects pedals - suitable to plug into "normal" amp + speakers?

Hi all,

I have a question regarding effects pedals. Let's assume the pedal can simulate or add distortion, does this mean that it is suitable for plugging into a hi-fi or "non-guitar" amp?

My current amp is a 15W cheapy that I'm not particularly impressed with, but I do have a very nice old-school Pioneer component system with fantastic speakers. I'll be buying Guido's GT-6 and I was hoping that I could do away with the practice amp for home use.

I dunno about the GT-6, but the GT-8 has an output for headphones which, I assume, could be plugged into your hi-fi amp.
I think I need to try this - guitar on multi channel audio ?

Yes. You need a digital pedal with a headphone out. The guitar has a different output from hi-fi stuff, and could seriously mess up your system going into a hi-fi input. Also it will sound kak.

Get a slightly older Boss multi-fx unit (it will therefore be cheap) with a headphone line out and some amp simulation. Plug in. Enjoy. Better still, fork out R1800 for the Cube30 currently selling in the classifieds.

The GT-6 works well into a clean system like a hi-fi. Just don't crank the volume to extreme levels - hi-fi speakers are not built to take the same punishment as a guitar amp speaker.

You don't have to use the headphone out, just the normal outputs and jack to RCA cables and keep the master output level on the GT-6 down a few notches (at 6 or 7).
