Totally agree Jack! There are some pieces of music where this happens to me even when I am not playing.
Led Zeppelin - The song remains the same, The version of Stairway to Heaven, yeah I know all the Wayne's World jibes about 'No Stairway..." etc.
But when Jimmy Page launches into the solo and builds it, and builds it, untill he hits that note... my ribcage starts exploding to give my heart room.

Late last night after my practice session, I was just sitting back with a fag, in total darkness, axe in lap, and rhythmically tapping away at the low E just where it emerges off the saddle.

I was wearing earphones, and after a while, I started hearing all sorts of funky background tones, particularly harmonics that sounded like low, soft, extended blooping sounds, almost like a Hammond. I probably sat doing this for over half an hour, just letting my mind wander and getting all sorts of musical ideas.

It was beyond cool.
