Music Instrument Insurance

Hi Guys

Now i know this topic has been discussed before. I remember seeing the topic but I don't feel like searching for it. Just want to know if it's available in SA en where? if you google music instrument insurance you get alot of non SA sites. and when I add za tag it gets me pretty much nothing. So anyone?

It varies from one insurance company to the other, if you approach any local insurance company they should provide cover, its not cheap. You have to specifiy which guitars for example, you take out the house to gig with and those will be insured at a premium. If you do not remove the instrument out of your house its generally covered with the householder's cover.

i have added this to my houselhold insurance as specified item ..... doing it any other way and it was horrendoulsy expesnisve ..as it is i only listed my fender and orange ...insuring everything would of been prohibitive

Yep. I have only one of my guitars specified, it's not that expensive, R40/month for R10,500 insured value. (Just to get an idea, I guess it depends on your risk profile etc...)

I have also added mine to my standard cover with Outsurance. they call it out and about. I pay around R135 to insure 3 guitars, my pedal, my amp and any unspecified gear up to R3k. all in all about R30k cover.

I've got some of my main gear all-risk insured (specified) in addition to my household and vehicle portfolio at around R400/month (Mutual & Federal) for R140 000 coverage. Worth it for peace-of-mind...

Pretty much same premium for the same cover at Gaurdrisk. I also had outsurance for about the same price before I moved all my insurance away from them. Should be the cheapest to use the same company as to where your other valuables are insured.

Best would be to make your sums, and see which loss you won't recover from easily and compare it to the premium. The gretsch will probably the hardest knock, there is many second hand deals if you would want to replace the GT-8. The modded amp, should not be too much of a concern.

As I can see from your equipment, the above seems quite reasonable
